| Allow me to complain for a while.
Monday morning I woke up with a migraine and spent the entire day in bed. Tuesday, the migraine persisted but I took two Excedrin and powered through my day anyway. Wednesday, two more Excedrin and powering through. Thursday, no migraine. Today, I think I feel one coming...
Here's the thing:
So far this semester, I've been playing the piano better than I've played in ages, possibly ever. It's been awesome. But when this migraine hit, it took all of that away. I can barely sight-read now, and even pieces I've been playing for a while are giving me some trouble. My spacial reasoning is down for the count, and I'm royally sucking at piano right now.
This is especially bad because I've got to accompany 3 people in seminar today, one person for an audition tomorrow, and one person for the prelims for the concerto competition tomorrow.
If I wasn't in a public place right now, I would SO just break down and cry.
On the plus side, my novel's going well, even if I am technically behind in word count. I'm actually getting into the story now - all the set-up is done. So I can write a lot more in one sitting because it flows pretty well.
At this point though, I'd prefer it if my novel were sucking and my piano skills were going well...
| Well, after hours spent in coffee shops and numerous phone calls from my mother, I have finally posted the first part of my NaNoWriMo novel for public viewing. It can be found HERE
Let me know what you think if you read it.
Last night we had a write-in that went from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. - it wasn't scheduled or planned to go to 2 a.m., it just happened. But I finished January and got a start on February and broke 10,000 words so I'm ahead of where I finished last year, yay!
I sang a solo in church yesterday and it went well. I was nervous though. I sang "Go Light Your World" by Chris Rice. When I picked the music, I didn't think it would match the sermon particularly well, and it ended up fitting perfectly. Totally awesome.
Anyway... I'm hungry so I'm going to see about food...
| Hey strangers
My last of posting is due to several things - first of all, I wouldn't have had much to say the last couple of weeks that wasn't along the lines of "so one of my characters just told me their life story" or "I just thought of an awesome scene" or something geeky like that.
Secondly, not that much exciting has happened - it's just been work work work. It's going really well though - I feel like I have the best jobs in the world (minus the inclusion of a Connie in one of them).
Anyway.
Saturday night, Savannah had a Halloween party. It was a lot of fun. Aside from Savannah, her sister Brianna, and Layne, I didn't really know anyone there, but they were cool and friendly and I actually made some new friends. Fun times! At 10:15 I left to pick up Laura (a fellow NaNoWriMo participant) at her dorm and drive to Austin for the Midnight Write. I was a LITTLE nervous about driving in Austin on Halloween, but once I got past 6th Street, there were practically no cars. It was almost like the entirety of Austin was on 6th St. We got to Dragon's Lair, which is a comic and fantasy store and found a spot at a table to set up camp. It was really nice to be in a room full of people who understand the phrase, "I can't make my character do what I want him to do."
The ML (municipal liason) counted down the last minute from 11:59 and we all started typing away right at midnight. I wrote until about 1:45 a.m. (the party was over at 2) and had over 2,000 words by the time I stopped. It was awesome.
So this week has been all about trying to strike a balance between writing like mad and keeping up with my normal responsibilities.
I will start posting my story soon - the reason it's taking so long is because I'm not dividing it up into "chapters" per se, but into months. I finished December on the first day because it was mostly just to set up the MC and the situation and I'm getting close to finishing January. January's a big one. February probably won't be as big. Anyway, the book runs from December to the following December.
So far it's going really well. I'm glad I did so much planning. It's nice to where I'm going. My MC isn't good at school... I don't really know how to write someone who's not good at school...
Anyway, this blog will be mostly geeky writing stuff for the next month - assuming I actually update it (sorry!!!)
| Sometime in the summer or thereabouts, a little bakery opened across the street from the music building. I didn't get around to trying it until this week and - wow. It's so good! Best cinnamon roll I've ever had in my life... the kolaches are to die for... anyone who ever comes to visit me in San Marcos is going there with me. It's a rule.
Not a whole lot going on really, but I felt like I should post.
I went exploring back behind my apartment with Savannah on Thursday. Since we've actually had some significant rain, there's a Blanco River again. Here's the picturesque spot we found (where I will probably do a lot of writing in November)

| Garnier should pay me for this...
I finally found a product that curls my hair the way I want. It's Garnier Fructis Curl-Sculpting Cream-Gel. I just rub it in my hair while it's damp and then twirl strands of hair around my fingers. So easy, and great results. Check me out!

Yay, curls!
Anyway.
I got attacked by plot bunnies this morning, a nice little re-energizer for NaNoWriMo. I think I may actually be able to do this. And I'm so excited! My two MC's are feeling very real to me...
That's the big news from here. Curls and plot bunnies.
